What is The Language Flagship?
The Language Flagship is a national effort to change the way Americans learn languages. Flagship offers language programs at schools across the United States for undergraduate students in critical languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, and Russian. Designed as a network of programs, The Language Flagship seeks to graduate students who will take their place among the next generation of global professionals, commanding a professional level of proficiency in a language critical to U.S. national security and economic competitiveness.

Eligibility and Application

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

No prior knowledge of Chinese required.

Compatible with most majors.

Expected to show a strong commitment to intensive Chinese study throughout their WKU degree.

Students must complete a Capstone Year in Taipei, Taiwan, or Monterey, California to graduate from the Flagship Program.
Before submitting your application to the WKU Chinese Flagship Program, please ensure that you have already applied to WKU.
We strongly encourage all Flagship students to apply to the Honors College to access additional scholarship opportunities.
