SSS-D Student and Student Accessibility Ambassador President 2024-Present
"I love the SSS-D because I feel seen and validated in my experiences as a college student with disabilities. SSS-D not only provides me with resources and coaching to pursue my degree despite my disabilities, but it also helps me become a better person and be the best me I can be."

"TRIO-SSS-D has been a vital source of support throughout my journey at Western Kentucky University. As a student with a disability, I have faced unique challenges, but the TRIO-SSS-D program has provided me with the tools, resources, and encouragement needed to succeed academically and personally. From personalized advising and priority registration to assistance with accommodations and access to workshops, the program has helped me stay on track toward graduation. Most importantly, TRIO-SSS-D has created a welcoming environment where I feel understood, empowered, and valued. Their continued support has not only enhanced my educational experience but also strengthened my confidence in achieving my long-term goals."

"Without SSS-D services I truly don't think I would be able to attend WKU in person and get the college experience."

"SSS-D has helped me in so many ways. In the beginning of my learning career I was so anxious and a complete mess. I was going to drop out because the first semester was such a mess and I didn’t think It was for me. I was accepted into SSS-D and started seeing a councilor and he really made me feel like they wanted me there and that I could do it. SSS-D and Jimmie have helped me in so many ways we create plans and he’s always there when I’m too overwhelmed to even think about. The amount of times I didn’t think I was good enough to be apart of Western Kentucky University and someone was always there to tell me that I was and give me reasons why I should stay."

"My SSS-D Counselor, Aida, has been a lifeline during some stressful days in school. She has been a great listener and lets me vent, helping me work out problems that were affecting my studies. Aida has also been an excellent one-stop resource for university information and has helped me translate some ideas into actions after graduation. I know she isn't an outlier either; she and the other counselors who work in the SSS-D are knowledgeable, professional, but more importantly, they each genuinely care for the students they work with. Plenty of people will give lip service about caring for students, but the TRIO/SSS-D staff takes it further. They care for you as a student, but more importantly, they care for you as a person."
