Work Force Administration
Workforce Administration (WFA) is a professional bachelors degree program developed for Community/Technical College graduates, adult learners, and career-focused students. WFA compliments your prior coursework and prepares you for supervisory and managerial responsibilities in a variety of industries.
WFA compliments different associates degree majors because it prepares students to advance in their professional field by taking on supervisory and managerial roles within their industry.
WFA does not have a restrictive admissions policy and there are no pre-requisites for any WFA courses. Students are able to enter the program and move through to graduation quickly and efficiently. Best of all – WFA builds on the courses you’ve taken as part of your A.A.S. degree. There are no complicated articulation agreements that list which classes may or may not transfer. WFA builds on your entire AAS degree and respects all of the college work that you’ve taken.
WFA is a joint degree that students earn at their local community/technical college and through Western Kentucky University. It is designed to compliment the professional/technical/vocational curriculum that students earn their A.A.S. degree in. WFA prepares its students to advance their careers by assuming supervisory and managerial roles in their industry. For many career fields, this is the most common career-progression path.
The Work Force Administration program has ten required WFA ### courses. These may be taken any time that the course is offered. WFA courses are taught on a frequent rotation to help students make timely progress towards graduation.
The Work Force Administration major does not have math requirements beyond that required for General Education. Math 109 (or equivalent) is all that is required.
Work Force Administration is a professional degree, but it's not administered by the College of Business. As such, WFA majors are not required to take accounting, economics, statistics, and other classes that are a pre-requisite for admission to most business schools.
No. Any student who wants to major in Work Force Administration may do so. Unlike some other majors, there is no formal application process, no paperwork to complete, no list of pre-requisite courses, no required GPA. Transfer students should declare WFA when applying to Western.
Yes, each WFA course has a designated start and end date. WFA uses a unique “Tri-Term” schedule. Classes are taught for 5 weeks (instead of the traditional 15-week semester). Research has shown that working adults are much better able to focus on one class at a time, than juggling 4-5 classes at once. The Tri-Term still allows students to move quickly towards graduation.
- Have you completed your AAS Degree?
- Have you completed all General Education Requirements?
- (are you Fully-Gen-Ed-Certified?)
The Workforce Administration major is open to all WKU students (and students who would like to study at WKU). However, the program was designed to meet the unique needs of Transfer Students. If you have completed (or soon will complete) your Associates Degree the WFA program may be for you.
Qualified Transfer Students: To receive all of the benefits of the WFA program transfer students must be fully qualified. This includes:
- Graduate with an Associate of Applied Science from KCTCS or other partner Community/Technical College.
- Complete all outstanding general education requirements at your local community college. KCTCS will certify you as “Fully General Education Certified” on your official transcript. Students from other community colleges should consult the WKU Transfer Center about requirements.
- Apply and be accepted to WKU. You must select Workforce Administration as your major when you apply. Select an area of concentration that most closely matches the coursework you completed for your Associates degree.
