Tuition is based on student classification (undergraduate or graduate), enrollment status, and delivery mode. Undergraduate and Graduate-level On Demand courses are charged per credit hour. There are no full-time online rates, and out-of-state tuition is not applied. For more information, visit the Office of Student Billing & Account Services. Yes, but there are specific requirements for requesting aid and strict course completion deadlines you must meet—as explained here.

Students may take up to four On Demand courses at one time. However, we recommend taking no more than two at a time due to the self-paced, focused nature of the courses.

Refunds: 100% refund if dropped within the first week; 75% refund if dropped within six weeks.

Withdrawal: You may withdraw within four months of your enrollment date. A "W" will appear on your transcript, and withdrawals after the first week may incur fees. Withdrawals are not allowed after four months or after the final exam. Fill out the Course Withdrawal Form to proceed.

Yes, you can request a three-month extension for a $75 fee if you're approaching the nine-month course deadline. The extension must be purchased before the course expires.

On Demand courses require proctored exams as outlined in your course syllabus. You must complete all exams before the course expiration date. You must register for on-site or off-site exam proctoring through WKU's Distance Learning Testing Center.

WKU's Distance Learning Testing Center does not charge a fee, but other locations in the WKU Remote Proctoring Network may. Students are responsible for paying any proctoring or associated fees, such as parking.

Textbooks for On Demand courses are available at The WKU Store in Downing University Center. You can order online or by phone. Make sure you provide the correct course section number when ordering.

On Demand course credits count toward your total load for the semester. You cannot register for more than 19 hours without special permission. Financial aid may count these hours, but you must sign an agreement to complete the course within the semester for aid to be applied. See above.

All course requirements, including exams, must be submitted at least three weeks before your graduation deadline. If the course isn't completed in time, it may be reported past the deadline for graduation.

You may retake a course after receiving written permission from the department head. Some departments, like Modern Languages, do not allow retakes for specific courses.

On Demand courses are conducted through the Blackboard Learning Management System. High-speed internet is required, as all course materials, assignments, and exams are submitted via the web.

The Keys To Succeeding With On Demand:

On Demand is a convenient yet rigorous learning option with a flexible schedule to fit your busy life but remember that completing coursework will take self-motivation and discipline. Here are some tips to help you succeed.

  1. Ask for help.Taking an On Demand course can be overwhelming at first. If you have questions about the course and its content, contact your instructor. Technical questions should go to the WKU Help desk. We are always here to help at 270-745-4158 or by email if you don't know who else to contact.
  2. Read the syllabus. The syllabus is critical; it’s the road map for the entire course, so get to know it well. Print a copy and read through it...twice.
  • Set a personal goal for when you would like to complete the course. Put all assignment due dates on your calendar, as well as reminders.
  • Once the course begins, review assignment instructions and discussion topics at the beginning of each week and consult grading guidelines. You’ll be amazed how much easier assignments become once you’re familiar with the instructions.
  1. Manage your time wisely. The freedom and flexibility of the On Demand format requires planning, organization and responsibility. It takes commitment to keep up.
  • Take the first few days of your course to become familiar with expectations and make a schedule. Tasks can include reading, studying, writing, conducting research, responding to discussion boards, meeting virtually in groups and other learning activities.
  • Use your planner! Completing assignments and marking them off your to-do list or calendar is literally your track record of success for this type of course!
  1. Put in the work. Expect to invest a minimum of two hours of work for each hour of instruction per week.
  • Don’t procrastinate. Once you get behind in a course, it’s challenging to catch up because the time commitment increases but your busy life and responsibilities don’t decrease.
  • Sticking to a steady schedule helps.
  1. Communicate frequently. On Demand classes require students to be strong communicators through email, discussion boards, and chat rooms. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your instructor or fellow classmates if you have questions or need help.
  • Remember, WKU CARES. We are here to help you if you are feeling overwhelmed!
