Licensure Details

Accountancy

  • Maine
  • Master of Accountancy
  • Graduate

This program is designed to meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in this state/territory.

This 30-hour Master of Accountancy program helps prepare students to meet the 150-credit-hour education threshold commonly required to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam. Completing this program alone does not guarantee eligibility for licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) any state or territory.

To become a licensed CPA, most jurisdictions require you to:
Complete 150 semester hours of postsecondary education
Pass the Uniform CPA Examination (administered by the AICPA)
Meet state-specific requirements, which may include an additional ethics or state law exam, 1–2 years of supervised professional experience, and/or background checks or other documentation.
Apply through the appropriate state or territorial Board of Accountancy.

Please note that licensure requirements can change. We strongly recommend that prospective and current students directly consult the Maine Board of Accountancy (https://www.maine.gov/pfr/professionallicensing/professions/accountancy) to confirm all current licensure/certification requirements. For information on licensure/certification in other states, please also consult their relevant state licensing boards.
