VETERANS EVENT
Saturday, November 8 1-4 PM
An afternoon of activities for both adults and children to celebrate and honor our region's veterans. Following the Bowling Green Veterans Day Parade, all are invited to join us. The Kentucky Museum will be open from 9AM-4PM, with three floors of exhibits. While here, be sure to visit our newest exhibit, Sonic Landscape.
WWI & II Artifacts 1-1:30, 2:00-2:30, 3:00-3:30 PM
Join Collections Manager Bryan Morey and see items from our extensive collection including: uniforms, weaponry, military gear, battlefield souvenirs, photos, correspondence, and more.
ONLINE WALL OF HONOR 1-4 PM
Click here for the new Wall of Honor website. Southcentral Kentucky veterans, or their descendants, submit photos and complete a brief information form to be included on the website. Submit now, or at the event here will be a station where a staff member will scan your photo and assist with completion of form.
VETERANS GROUPS 1-4PM
Several veterans groups will have tables distributing information about programs and services including:
- WKU Military Services
- WKU Veterans Upward Bound
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES 1-4 PM
- Create a "Thank You" card for veterans and deployed troops
- Coloring table
- Historical writing
- Children will see correspondence from soldiers in the American Revolution and Civil War, and write their own letters with quills and steel points.
- Pack a haversack
SERVICE CAKES/ LIGHT REFRESHMENTS 1-4 PM
Each service branch will be represented with their own cake. After a photo, all cakes will be cut and served to attendees along with punch.

SPEAKERS
1:30-2 PM
WKU history professor David Serafini will discuss "Kentuckians at War." David Serafini is a popular history professor at WKU—each semester, students scramble to enroll in his classes. He has taught several courses covering WWI and II including Military History, War and Society, First World War, Hitler and Nazi Germany and more.
2:15-2:45 PM
WKU history professor, provost emeritus and university historian Dr. David Lee will present "Sergeant Alvin York." David Lee has written books on Tennessee politics in the 1920s and on the life of World War I soldier, Sergeant Alvin York. He also co-authored a history of the United States in the twentieth century.
