What is House Bill 190?
A new law in Kentucky aims to expand access to advanced coursework and accelerated learning for students in public schools. It requires each school district to create a plan that outlines how they will offer and support advanced learning opportunities, such as AP, IB, or dual credit classes. The law also sets minimum requirements for these plans and allows districts to include additional strategies. School councils—or principals if no council exists—must adopt related policies at the school level. The Kentucky Board of Education and Department of Education will provide guidance and oversight to help districts implement their plans effectively.
