Windows 10 End of Life
- WKU ITS Service Desk
- Wednesday, September 10th, 2025
Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After this date, security updates will no longer be provided by Microsoft, and continued use of Windows 10 devices will create security risks. WKU ITS has been preparing for this transition over the past two years, but some campus computers are still running Windows 10 — especially student employee devices or computers that are shared.
What to Expect:
Beginning in the weeks leading up to October 14, WKU ITS will start locking Windows 10 computers, and you will receive an error message when trying to login.
If your computer becomes locked, first check the supported Windows 11 models list here: www.wku.edu/its/windows-11-support.
If the computer is supported for Windows 11, contact the WKU ITS Service Desk (wku.edu/its/contact) to have it unlocked and schedule an upgrade.
If the computer is not supported, you can contact WKU ITS to unlock it temporarily to allow time to transfer data and prepare the system for removal from service.
On October 14, all Windows 10 computers will be permanently locked in compliance with university security requirements.
Departments are encouraged to review all machines under their responsibility and begin planning now for upgrades or replacements.
