Bowling Green native Pleh Meh came to WKU determined to move fast: stack credits, graduate early, get on the CPA track. She’s also a proud Greenwood High School alumna.
Her love of numbers started in high school when she doubled up on math. “I took algebra and geometry together… I like working with numbers… just play with numbers, puzzles, and stuff. And so I discovered accounting… and here I am now.”
Two years in, the pace caught up. “It started getting a bit harder during my second year, because I kept stacking classes… But honestly… college is fun… especially when you’re in clubs… and you can play like little pool games with your friends after studying.”
Those clubs—Asian American Association (AAA) and Beta Alpha Psi—keep her connected and engaged. “People… from all over… just come together and have fun… we get to do… volunteer work… which is super nice.”
Pleh even squeezed in a spring tax internship her sophomore year. “It was a tax internship… different from the books… still fun working with taxes and seeing different clients.” The experience also widened her horizons: “Tax… gets repetitive… definitely might want to try consulting.”
This summer she pressed pause on speed and said yes to a study abroad course at Hanyang University in Seoul. “I’m currently in Seoul, South Korea… taking a class called Strategic Management… we discuss how to think like a CEO… how to acquire different businesses… it makes me want to… own a business in the future.”
A WKU accounting professor from South Korea nudged her toward the program. “Korea has always been on my list… he recommended me his program… Korea is just so interesting… so much cultures… I’ll give it a try. Have some fun. Study abroad.”
She almost didn’t go. “I’ve always wanted to study abroad, but… didn’t think it was going to be possible, because I was stacking up so many classes… A friend told me that it’s okay to slow down. Take your time. Have some fun… It’s been such a very nice decision.”
The course brought together students “from the Asian parts—Singapore, Malaysia, lots of people from Hong Kong… a few from the United States… and… a fellow classmate… from WKU.” After class they hop on group chat and head to “Gangnam or Myeongdong… night markets—super nice, super cool.” Navigating is easy with “this app called NAVER app… buses, subway lines… very useful.”
The four‑week session flies. “I have about… 4 to 5 days [left]… It’s gone by so quickly… final exam next Thursday.” Staying in touch with her family across time zones is the hardest part: “I call them on the weekends… I really miss home, even though Korea is super fun.”
Back on the Hill, she’s intentionally easing her pace. “I’m definitely working towards my 150 [hours] required to sit for the CPA… that’s one of the main reasons why I’m taking my time… I was very overwhelmed and stressed.”
Her advice to students who think their major leaves no space for study abroad: look again. “I honestly thought there wouldn’t be any more classes… How am I going to study abroad because I’m out of classes to take? But luckily I still had one more class that could transfer credits… If people want to travel abroad…do it…and have some fun.”
