First-Generation Student Association (FirstToppers) Officers

First-Gen Student Association is the official student organization for the first-generation student population of Western Kentucky University. WKU defines first generation as “neither parent graduated from a traditional four-year college.” It does not mean that you are the first one in your family to attend college. In addition, a student is considered "first generation" if his/her parents graduated with an associate's degree (two-year degree), attended college but did not complete degree or had a sibling graduate with a bachelor's degree. The purpose is to create an inviting and safe environment for first-generation students to participate in events, create enthusiasm for scholarships, to promote networking with other first-generation students and first-generation faculty, and encouraged to remain active with the first-generation student community at this university. As a diverse student group, we shall work to increase more public attention for first-generation students and embody what it means when we spotlight “I am F1RST.”
