Student Conference Travel Funding Guidelines
Presenting your research at a conference? The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS) Dean’s Office can help fund your trip! This award helps cover your travel and registration costs so you can share your hard work.
Remember to also seek funding from other sources, like your academic department, the Honors College, Gatton Academy, or the Graduate School.
Application Deadline: March 1

Before you apply, check the award amounts and review the eligibility requirements to make sure you qualify for this great opportunity.
How Much Can I Get?
We offer different award amounts based on the conference location:
- Up to $250 for local, regional, and virtual conferences
- Up to $500 for national conferences
- Up to $1000 for international conferences
Are You Eligible?
You can apply for funding if you meet these requirements:
- You are a student in CEBS.
- You are presenting your own research, creative work, or scholarship.
- You are in good standing with the university.
- You have not received this award yet in the current academic year.
How to Get Your Funding: A 4-Step Guide
The process is a team effort between you, your faculty mentor, and your department.
Your Mentor Applies for You
Your faculty mentor must complete and submit the CEBS Student Travel Funding Request.
- Deadline: At least 45 days before your trip.
- Required Document: Proof that you have submitted your proposal to the conference.
Wait for a Decision
The Dean’s Office will notify you, your mentor, and your department of the decision within 30 days.
- To release funds: You must provide documentation that your conference proposal has been accepted.
Plan Your Trip
Once approved, you can start using the funds for registration fees, lodging, and other travel costs that follow WKU policies.
- Going over budget? If your expenses will exceed the award amount, you must talk with your home department before making any purchases.
Submit Final Paperwork
Within two weeks of returning from your trip, give your home department all outstanding receipts and proof that you attended the conference.
A Few More Things to Know
Share Your Work at Home! Award recipients are strongly encouraged to participate in research events like the CEBS Student Poster Session and the WKU Student Scholar Showcase.
Attention Faculty: If you are mentoring 5 or more students requesting funds for the same conference, please contact the CEBS Dean's Office before any applications are submitted.
